Girlhood

go home...

My log of all things from my childhood. To have a good think about them, and to make sure I don't forget.

Dolls

My love for dolls has been very consistent.

Monster High

The absolute pinnacle of coolness to any spooky young girl. The original line had such a strong aesthetic and really stood out as being ultra high quality. The outfits and clothes pieces were so well constructed, and it was the only doll line where the illustrated images beared an actual resemblance to the dolls.

The OG lineup was such a special thing in the doll world then. It had that edge and actual darker colour schemes that I had never seen before. OG Draculaura's outfit was that tinge of Gothic and Lolita fashion that I didn't know the name of then but I knew I was obsessed.

I also loved Spectra Vondergeist. I wanted to be transparent and rattle some chains about. Very fun.

Novi Stars

I was completely enamored by my Mae Tallick doll. Her intended gimmick was her voice button, which was the ear on the side of her head. This meant that she needed to have batteries in her head, which were accessable by taking off her wig. This was the true gimmick. Her wig made a satisfying click when putting it on and taking it off, and this I did over and over again. Her bald head look was also very chic.

Looking back, her posability was honestly terrible. She had no elbow joints, no knees joints, barely a leg swivel. Her static arms pose was cool enough to young-me that it barely mattered anyway.

Web games

Sami's Tea Restaurant

There are still versions of this game avaliable to play, though I believe I found it on the original Friv website.

There was also Sami's massage parlour, which was much of the same, and Sami's nail salon, which was the same but worse.

Devilish Cooking

McDonald's Fairies and Dragons

Although not technically a "web game", it still occupies the same place in my mind. It was one of the few downloaded games on the computer I played. It was an actual disc that came as a McDonald's toy, though I can't remember if I got it that way or only played it at a relative's house.

It was half minigames, and half desktop pet.

The files are still downloadable on archive.org.

DS Games

Most of the DS games I played were all on an R4 card, which I did not understand until much much later on. But I loved my R4.

Lego Battles

Luigi's Casino

I barely ever played the actual Mario part of New Super Mario Bros DS, but I did play heaps and heaps of the minigames. I became very good at the Wanted! minigame, finding the faces. I'm probably not as good at it now.

But it was the vibes and sounds of Luigi's Casino that I remember most. It mainly stayed on my mind because, when I was young, I could not for the life of me figure out the rules of the game. I had no information about how poker was actually played.

I only now understand Poker hands and rules because of Balatro.
